GRAND SLAMS

The Grand Slams are the most important tournaments on the ATP World Tour. They are the world’s four most important annual tennis events, and as a consequence, the ones with the biggest public and media attention.

First there are a lot of things that diferent these tournaments with anothers, for example:

  • They are the tournaments that give more points, 2000 points exactly
  • The tournaments last two weeks (Normally the other tournaments last one week)
  • They are open tournaments, everyone can participate

We will start talking about the first grand slam of the season, the Australian Open, normally the tournament takes place the last week of January and ends the first of February

This tournament is played on hard court like the US Open (we will talk about this tournament later). It was played for the first time in 1905.

The men’s player with most wins is Novak Djokovic that have won the title 9 times on his career, and the women’s player with most wins is Serena Williams with 7 wins.

Next we have the second Grand Slam of the year, Roland Garros, located in France, that is played on clay court. It was played for the first time in 1891.

The men’s player with most wins is Rafael Nadal who wons the title 13 times, this is the record of the player who has won a tournament the most times, and the women’s player with most wins is Chris Evert with 7 times.

The third one is Wimbledon that is located in London, concretly in a small village named Wimbledon. Is the oldest tournament, the first time it was played was the 1876. This tournament is played on grass court.

The men’s player with most wins is Roger Federer with 8 wins, and the women’s player with most wins is Martina Navratilova with 9 wins.

The last Grand Slam of the season is the US Open, that is played on hard court too. Logically is located on the United States concretly in New York. The first time this tournament was played was in 1881

The men’s player with most titles there is Roger Federer with 5, and the women’s player with most titles is Serena Williams with 6 wins.

Finally, the players with the most grand slam tournaments are Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with 20 in the men’s field, and in the women’s field it is Serena Williams with 23.
